“In 2023, I fell in love with sturgeons, as I often do with strange critters. Soon after, I started to see them everywhere — from little baby sturgeons in nature centers to chalk drawings, murals, and storm-drain art. This series began with my desire to join the chorus of sturgeon. Then I wanted the sturgeon to have a silly hat. Inspired by my friend, the sturgeon quickly became a babushka with a cig running groceries. That first painting led me to the series theme: romanticizing daily life by making bright and whimsical creatures do mundane chores.”
