CRAFT-FORWARD WHIMSY – if your work isn’t this, that’s cool, but we’re probably not a great fit! Here’s what we wanna read:

• craft-forward (to us) means writing that is intentional, that showcases your fine-tuned skills and polished word choice. Writing is hard work! Let’s illustrate that talent.

• the magical in the mundane and the mundane in the magical

• fabulism and the fantastical, whimsy and magic

• work that reminds us we love to read (i.e., the work doesn’t need to be “happy” but the editors would like to feel happy to have read it)

• a good sense of humor (we don’t need to laugh out loud, but who doesn’t love a good chortle here and there?)

• fresh takes on folklore and mythos

• fiction submissions should be addressed to Gen and E.!

• up to 3k words of prose!

  • but we love flash, too :D

• writing should be double spaced

• things Gen and E. especially like:

  • Atmospheric stories - take us away from this world and into a new one

  • Strong, witty characters 

  • A twisty turny plot 

  • A unique voice and perspective

They’re mostly the same as the fiction guidelines above, BUT:

• nonfiction submissions should be addressed to Parker Dean :0

• up to 3k words

  • or flash! yay flash!

• writing should be double spaced

• things Parker Dean especially likes:

  • lyrical essays, memoir, narrative, research essays, funky-wunky things

  • beautiful, long, convoluted, and mixed metaphors

  • stories about that one weird night you had in college

  • steamy, lustful yearning

  • LGBTQIA+ stories <3

  • fairytale endings (especially if there is an animal involved)

• poetry submissions should be addressed to Lexi <3

• send us up to 5 poems, keeping to a max page count of 12

• poems may be formatted to your heart's desire, but know that sometimes websites are VERY SILLY GEESE and we will have to fuss around a bit

  • prose poems OR really good line breaks

• art + photography submissions should be addressed to E. :-D

  • please send a selection of up to 10 of your finest photos or pieces of art

  • title each piece individually (though if you want to add an overarching title, we love to see it)

  • (optional) please include an Artist Statement about each piece

  • JPG/PNG format in the highest quality possible

  • what E. looks for:

    • simple and clean scenes

    • pastels

    • the beauty in the strange

    • leading lines and strong subjects

  • up to 1200 words and/or 3 images or attachments

• things Sir Goosington loves to see:

  • mixed media and collages

  • comic strips (especially if there’s a dog)

  • experimental fanfic (only one bed, am I right?)

  • grocery lists with hidden poetry

  • a series of intricate puzzles resulting in Nicholas Cage having to steal the Declaration of Independence

  • recipes for BIG pots
