dirty tear

i meant to start writing you letters

i meant to start writing you letters
or textbooks on physics for poets
the crunch of gravel
the scratch of correspondence
pages crying out
memory turns the world
with garden beer and paper tongues
stepping out late into the dark

i meant to record us
eating with chopsticks
and other echoes laughing
like sauvignon blanc
drunk on honey and love
i swear we had a fruit tree in the yard
you the moon
a crown dipped in silver applause

dirty tear i’d follow you forever
