Protect Trans Goslings

Protect Trans Goslings

Watercolor, Pen, and Marker on Watercolor Paper

“When thinking about pride, and geese, I liked the image of a mother goose—the kind you see at the botanical gardens near my house (though those are actually Canada geese) who, if a human gets too close, will attack with the devastating force of a small cannon.

It’s incredibly hard to grow up queer. Even the luckiest of us often get bullied for the tiny differences we don’t yet have a name for when we’re young. I liked the idea of the goose guarding its eggs like a mother dragon until the goslings are ready to come out of their shells and stand on their own. That’s what we need to do as a community, I think—shelter the goslings who can’t defend themselves under our wings and bite those who want to hurt them. Pride is us honking as loudly as we can to prove that not only are we here, and queer, but we’re not going anywhere and we’re not leaving anyone behind.

Also, I liked the ‘egg’ pun.” - Rowan Procter
