Within You
If you went over the hills of horses, past the lines of palms, right over the chromium-coloured gems, and stopped by the fields of lilacs, you’d find the souls of Olodu and Oshun. There, you’d find the essence of the story, which begins at the end and the beginning of the world, for their fates were sealed before their birth. Out of the darkness of life, they emerged. Olodu formed as a fierce figure with eyes of creation. He spoke, and the stars began to form from the whispers of his thoughts. On the other side, Oshun formed as the smell of carnations. The scent tickled the nothingness until it breathed life into her fragrance. She, too, began to create, but her creation manifested mini beating orbs in the shape of multiple objects. Some took the shape of sturdy, tall sprouts, and others formed flowing bodies and glistering objects she named stones and took as companions, then shaped them into beings mirroring her image. The pair remained separated for aeons until a magical day, when the scent of Oshun finally drifted to Olodu's nose.
He searched for miles in the darkness, creating newness and light as he ventured. The scent swirled and turned and formed large and small stars till he stumbled onto a world with beauty. He explored the long browns and mini dips of soil till he saw her. She glowed brighter than his stars. He watched her being curiously, feeling insufficient, he moved toward the reflective, flowy, glowing surface. He saw himself for the first time, and as he studied his man, the surface separated, revealing the beauty he ran from.
She smiled and uttered in a song, “I have created and seen all, but you. What are you?”
He pointed to the skies.
She followed his arm. “Ah, the beauty I admire and long for in my loneliness.” He smiled and moved back slightly, abashed. “You’re the stars?”
He looked surprised at the mention of the name he gave. “No, I made them.”
“So you are me.”
“And I am you.”
They moved closer and revolved around the other, staring at the familiar unfamiliarity. Their fingers traced the other, and wands of light left them as they studied their vessels. The lights shot out and surrounded the world of Oshun, covering the stones, softening their hardness, and leaving behind flesh.
When you stop by the field of lilacs, you'll find the origin of yourself. You’ll find the highest point of love in you.
