I couldn’t really write an artist statement without acknowledging my teachers. My kind and generous teachers, like Prometheus, brought fire to my mind. It was the fire of their enthusiasm and their gentle gestures of direction that made this, my treasure hunt of discovery, possible, on my muse-lit path of art.

I have been blessed, allowed to cast two shadows on this illuminated path, as a photographer for 51 years, and as a painter for 30. These disciplines anchored me in the harbor of imagination, while I supported myself in my day job as a general contractor. I became a photographer because I couldn’t draw, not a lick. The camera allowed me access to a life in art. 

These photos are also a reflection of my sincerity and dedication as an artist and my gratitude to you, Gentle Viewer, for stopping to look. If you are inspired in some way, by some element in these photos, don’t thank me; thank the lineage of those Newtonian giants that went before. Then go, take that flame of inspiration and create something inward-looking and pass it along. From the cave paintings to this now, it is what has been wished upon us.”
