Andy’s Friends

There is a scene in The Devil Wears Prada
where one of Andy's friends,
who has curated an exhibition
the characters are visiting,
says, “Okay, start with the photographs at the back,
and work your way forward.
That is the way I have designed it,
you will love it.”

I think about this
on average
once a week.

Mostly,

I just think she is bad at curating art shows
but every time we stick that film on, like a plaster,
the scene exposes all the other flaws
we would prefer to ignore.

Soon enough, I am again
holding one of your belts
up against my own, judging
whether they're too similar. Soon enough, I am again
diving into a new Marc Jacobs bag,
hoping to find a surprise
at the bottom. Meanwhile,
you're in the front room
loudly demanding the television tell you
how someone could see exactly how this show is going to end
and then keep working their way
right back to the start.
