Night Nurse

Be quiet, little one,
it’s best not to let the mirrors hear you stir
stay under the covers
never look at your reflection in the dark
salt comes from fairies
and ghosts keep you warm
a blackened pot means danger
freckles are tokens of luck
remember all I’ve taught you
when the night turns me to dust.
